Mayoral Candidate Wants Council To Meet Outside City Hall (POLL)

One candidate running for mayor in Windsor wants to hold some city council meetings out in the community.

Matt Marchand is one of four candidates who has filed their nomination papers to run for mayor of Windsor in October. The other three are Tom Hensel, Ernie Lamont, and Frank Dyck.

Current Mayor Drew Dilkens has not declared his intentions to run again.

Marchand says if he is elected, one council meeting per quarter will be held at different locations across the city.

"In doing this, we see the gap between residents and decision-makers. Together, we can bring city government closer to the people and encourage communication," says Marchand in a release Thursday. "We want to get council out into the community to listen and hear what the community is saying."

Meanwhile, the list of candidates forward councillor continued to grow this week with Jim Morrison announcing intentions to run Ward 10 against Mohammad Chams, and Kieran MacKenzie in Ward 9 who will face two opponents so far, Alex Aggarwal and Xavier Gonzalez.

Local lawyer Fabio Costante has also announced his candidacy against Ward 2 Councillor John Elliott, who so far is the only current member of council to file nomination papers to run for re-election.

As of Friday, Ward 5 had two candidates, Lillian B. Kruzsely and Joey Wright. Medical marijuana activist, Josh Jacquot was the only candidate in Ward 6, and Alex Aggarwal and Xavier Gonzalez declared their candidacy in Ward 9.
