Drug Investigation Underway After Fentanyl Scare In Windsor

Windsor police say a hazardous material incident in the west end has now turned into a drug investigation.

Officers found a man and a woman inside a parked Ford Escape at Sandwich St. and Prince Rd. Tuesday morning. The man appeared to be in medical distress and the woman was attempting to assist him but when she got out of the vehicle she also appeared to be in medical distress. Police believed the two were suffering the effects of an unknown drug, and the scene was contained. Both of them were taken to the hospital but their conditions are still unknown.

Officers on the scene saw a white powdery substance inside the vehicle and believe it to be powdered Fentanyl. Testing is underway to confirm if the white powder is Fentanyl. Police say drug users can't see Fentanyl contained in illicit drugs, can't smell it or taste it, but it can kill.

Charges could be laid.

Fentanyl is an opioid used as a pain medication and together with other medications for anesthesia. Fentanyl is also made illegally and used as a recreational drug, often mixed with heroin or cocaine.
