Firefighters with the Windsor Fire and Rescue Service will be fanning out across the city over the next six weeks to make sure people have working smoke alarms in their homes.
Starting Monday, August 27, fire officials will visit homes and apartment buildings up to and including four-storeys high.
The visits will take place between 6pm to 8pm Monday to Friday, and from 2pm to 4pm on the weekend.
Over six weeks, homeowners in the following areas can expect a visit.
- Caron Ave. to Pelissier St.
- Elliott St. to University Ave.
- California Ave. to Campbell
- Wyandotte St. W to Riverside Dr. W
- Huron Church Rd. to Brock St.
- Tecumseh Rd. W to Riverside Dr. W
- Meadowbrook Ln. to Hawthorne and Lauzon Rd.
- Wyandotte St. E to Riverside Dr. E
- McDougall Ave. to Hall Ave.
- Casgrain Dr. to St. Clair College
- Cabana Rd. to Villa Maria S
- Cabana Rd. W to Liberty St.
- Dominion Blvd. to Askin St.
The Ontario Fire Code also says "no person shall disable a smoke alarm so as to make it inoperable".
