Fallen hero's police badge recovered

Windsor police are extremely happy they have recovered a cherished possession.

Police said investigators have recovered the replica police badge that was part of a plaque commemorating Senior Constable John Atkinson. The memorial plaque was stolen August 3 from a wall in a hallway at the University of Windsor's Chrysler Building. Police said a shadowbox containing a photo of his funeral at the St. Denis Centre is still missing.

No charges have been laid but police said they are extremely pleased to have the stolen replica badge back.

Atkinson was murdered while on duty May 5, 2006.
