Rock show supporting Downtown Mission food bank

The Downtown Mission is getting some love.

Almost two dozen local bands are playing a concert to help replace the food that was ruined by three recent floods. The 20 band rock show is Friday night at RockStar Music Hall at 2418 Central Avenue from 5 p.m. until 2 a.m.

The basements at the Downtown Mission’s Wellness Centre at 875 Ouellette Ave. and its Windsor Youth Centre at 1247 Wyandotte St. E were substantially damaged from heavy rainfall this week and last week. The food was stored in the basements of both buildings and had to be thrown out for health reasons.

The Mission’s Food Bank program feeds more than 900 people per day. People attending the event are being asked to donate a food item instead of a cover charge. RockStar Music Hall will also make a food donation to the Mission. Food items needed include peanut butter, cereal, canned protein meats, such as tuna and ham, granola bars, underwear and socks.
