Windsor cashes in with OLG

The City of Windsor has received a hefty cheque from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for hosting Caesars Windsor.

The second-quarter, July to September, payment was almost $3.5 million. The OLG said in this fiscal year that started in April, Windsor has received around $4.6 million and since 1994 has received more than $53 million in non-tax gaming revenue.

“OLG provides direct support to communities across Ontario through payments to municipal partners and local charities, and generates more than $4 billion in economic activity, including goods and services purchased from local businesses,” said Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s minister of finance.

The OLG added these payments are made under an equitable formula that determines the funds municipalities receive for hosting a gaming facility and are based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue that is consistent across all sites in Ontario.

The OLG is the Ontario government's largest source of non-tax revenue at more than $2 billion a year.
