One hurt, one in custody after Windsor standoff

One person has been arrested and another is in hospital after a standoff in Windsor.

Windsor police say it began around 8:30 a.m. Saturday at a home on Pierre Ave. between Wyandotte St. E. and Tuscarora St. It was soon apparent that two people were holed up in the home, though it was not immediately clear why they were there or what caused the stalemate to begin.

The block was soon evacuated and vehicles were removed. The Windsor police's mobile command unit was set up on the Tuscarora side of the block and officers were seen with weapons out.

Officers were able to gain entry to the home around noon and take one of the suspects into custody, but the other suspect was not readily found. A Windsor police K-9 unit was used in the effort to locate the suspect.

The standoff ended around 3:30 p.m. with the other suspect found and taken by ambulance to hospital. There is no word on why the ambulance was needed and police have not provided additional information.

The investigation is ongoing and more details will be posted as they become available.
