The City of Windsor is asking people who usually receive Ontario Works income support cheques by mail to pick them up.
The move is in response to the Canada Post work disruption.
The city said all direct deposit payments will continue and will not be affected by the postal disruption.
November monthly assistance cheques will be available to pickup October 30, October 31 and November 1. Call 1-800-808-2268 to ensure your cheque has been printed before leaving for the cheque distribution centre. Windsor clients can pickup their cheques at 350 City Hall Square East in the main floor lobby from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Leamington clients can pickup their cheques at 33 Princess Street on the first floor between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Clients need to bring two pieces of government identification, one of which must have a photo.
The city adds that statements, bus passes, and dental cards will be mailed. Contact your caseworker for further instructions after November 2. For information on Dental Services call 519-255-5200 ext. 5220.
Clients approved for a bus pass who receive payments by direct deposit, but have not received their direct deposit statement, must bring their previous bus pass and their nine digit member ID number to the Transit Windsor Terminal at 300 Chatham St. W. Clients approved for a bus pass who have picked up their cheques or have received their direct deposit statement, can take the stub to any Transit Windsor outlet to pickup their bus pass.
