Ministry fines Amherstburg hunter

An Amherstburg hunter has been fined for a hunting violation.

The Ministry of Natural Resources said 22-year-old William Gatto has been fined $2,000 for having a shotgun out of its case in his vehicle at night. He has also received a 30-day hunting suspension.

The ministry said their officers were contacted by the Amherstburg Police Service December 21 after a pickup truck was stopped for a traffic violation shortly after midnight. Officials add that Gatto was previously convicted of the same offence in October of 2017.

The ministry reminds the public that hunting at night is illegal. Firearms, including archery equipment, must be unloaded and encased from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise.
