With the first snowflakes flying around this week, the city of Windsor is looking for volunteers to help with snow shoveling.
The city has put out the annual call for Snow Angels, volunteers who are paired up with senior citizens living in Windsor, along with people who have physical disabilities.
When snow builds up on the curbs and sidewalks after a big snowfall, walking can be very difficult for those who have trouble getting around. Snow build-up can also affect the ability of emergency responders, meter readers, mail carriers and others to do their jobs efficiently and safely.
High school students can participate in the Snow Angel program as an effective way to fulfill their 40-hour community service requirement for graduation.
Volunteers must be 16 and older and be willing to participate throughout the entire winter. As an added incentive, all those who volunteer will be entered into a draw for a tablet, or one of two $50 RecExpress gift cards.
