Accused serial thief caught by Windsor police

A suspicious man suspected of stealing from vehicles across Windsor has been arrested.

Police caught up with him on Friday afternoon and took him into custody at an apartment building on Sandwich Street near Detroit Street. Investigators say the suspect was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle with stolen licence plates from a separate alleged theft and inside officers found several items that were recently reported stolen from vehicles. Officers also recovered a number of receipts indicating that the suspect had allegedly made fraudulent transactions with some of the stolen property.

Corey Oickle, 38, from Windsor, is charged with possession of stolen property, theft, attempted motor vehicle theft, theft of a motor vehicle, theft of mail, and fraud.

He is also accused of entering a parked vehicle with a child in the back on Ouellette Avenue near Eugenie Street last week.

Oickle faces similar charges in Nova Scotia.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Windsor police remind drivers to lock and secure their vehicles, especially with the holiday shopping season underway. They urge people not to leave parcels and valuables inside vehicles in plain sight and put them in the trunk instead.
