Couple charged, drugs seized in Leamington

A Leamington couple faces numerous charges following a raid by the Ontario Provincial Police.

OPP officers, along with the Essex County Community Street Crime Unit, their Emergency Response Team, and the RCMP executed a search warrant Wednesday on a home on Elliott Street in Leamington.

A quantity of cocaine, crack cocaine, Percocet, two empty semi-automatic pistol magazines, several pieces of construction equipment and power tools were all seized during the execution of the warrant. Also confiscated were three motor vehicles and an unspecified amount of Canadian cash.

A 41-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man have been charged with two counts each of possession of stolen property under $5,000, one count each of possession of a Schedule I substance (opioid), possession of a Schedule I substance with the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and trafficking in property obtained by crime.

"The illegal sale and distribution of illicit drugs in our communities will continue to be a top priority for enforcement," said Inspector Glenn Miller, Essex County OPP detachment commander. "Those that are engaged in this activity need to know you have our full attention along with the eyes of the community that are watching you."

The suspects, whose names have not been released, have been released and will appear in a Leamington courtroom in late January 2019 to defend themselves against the charges.

The investigation continues. Anyone with information that may assist police should call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips should be phoned into Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submitted online.
