An effort to get a free television set did not work out well for two Toronto men in Essex County.
Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to a 911 call around 2 a.m. on Sunday from an apartment complex on Tecumseh Road East in the town of Tecumseh. The caller said they noticed a ladder propped against their balcony and strange noises coming from the unit above them. Officers arrived a few minutes later and spotted two men leaving the building, carrying a TV.
Two suspects were arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime, but a further investigation led to a search of an involved vehicle, which uncovered a firearm and unknown quantities of suspected cocaine, OxyContin, and heroin.
Constable Jim Root said Colin-Daniels Armoo, 22, and Shemar Vanderhyden-Steaman, 24, both of Toronto, are still in custody, facing multiple firearm, property and drug charges. These charges have not been proven in court.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
