EnWin now taking bids for historic downtown building

Are you looking to set up shop or expand in an historic downtown Windsor building?

An opportunity to purchase the downtown headquarters of EnWin Utilities, or the Windsor Utilities Commission building, has arisen, with the utility company listing the building for sale. The 43,000-plus square feet building on the northwest corner of Ouellette Avenue and Elliott Street West is now up for bids, according to EnWin.

The posting lists the building as historic and "close to Windsor's waterfront. The property includes three above-ground levels, three parking lots, ample office space and a full basement."

The listing of the headquarters follows EnWin's announced intentions to move their 100 downtown employees to their operations centre on Rhodes Drive as a cost-saving measure. EnWin spokesperson John-Paul Bonadonna confirmed to BlackburnNewsWindsor.com in an email Thursday that the building is for sale, though there was nothing new to report.

EnWin President and CEO Helga Reidel had also expressed confidence that with the Ouellette streetscaping project complete and grants being given to spur downtown development, the utility will have little trouble finding a buyer.

The downtown employees would move to Rhodes Drive. However, employees at the Weeks water treatment plant in Ford City will remain there.

Complete bid packages are available from the EnWin purchasing department. They can be requested through email or by picking them up in person at the Rhodes Drive centre during regular business hours through Thursday, January 2, 2019. Bids will be accepted until February 1.
