A total of 132 hockey teams are hitting the ice starting Thursday in a fundraising tournament to raise money for The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.
Over the next three days, 220 games will be played at the Libro Centre in Amherstburg, Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore, Vollmer Recreational Complex in LaSalle, Tecumseh Arena, and at Central Park Athletics in Windsor.
The tournament started 23 years ago as a skate-a-thon and has grown each year.
Divisions include Initiation Program, Tyke Jamboree, Novice, Atom, PeeWee, Bantam, and Novice Girls.
"This is my first experience with Hockey For Hospice," said hospice Executive Director Colleen Reaume. "It's so gratifying to see how engaged these kids are in the tournament. Not only do they have fun, raise pledges, and learn about The Hospice, they're teaching their family, friends, and neighbours about The Hospice programs and services in our community."
Over the past 22 years, the tournament has raised more than $2.9 million.
