El Mayor restaurant fire causes $1.2M in damage

The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service is reporting that the fire at El Mayor restaurant on Wyandotte Street near Parent Avenue caused $1.2 million in damage.

Fire Prevention Officer John Lee said the fire was likely caused by an electrical problem and started between the ceiling and the roof at the back of the building.

Nobody was hurt.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 1 a.m on Thursday. About 24 firefighters, two engines, two aerial trucks and a fire rescue vehicle responded to the call.

The investigation is expected to end late Friday afternoon.
