The January chill is in the air, but if you're a student looking for a summer job, you should start looking now.
The city of Windsor is once again offering hundreds of positions through its Summer Student Lottery program. The online application opened at the end of November 2018, but the deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Positions are available throughout a variety of city departments. They include road work and maintenance, weed cutting, customer service and clerical work, park and greenhouse maintenance, pothole patching, traffic sign installation, construction work and other jobs. According to the job posting, the pay is $16.78 per hour.
To be eligible to apply, students must be 17 years of age or older as of May 1, must be attending high school, university or college full-time with the intention of returning full-time in the fall of 2019; must be legally entitled to work in Canada and must be willing to start working all shifts upon the immediate completion of the semester. Applicants are expected to be flexible with scheduling with shifts available on days, afternoons, evenings, midnights, weekends and holidays. The city is also looking for applicants with a positive attitude and the ability to work individually or as a team with limited supervision.
Applicants must also hold a valid G or G2 driver's licence and be able to produce a driver's abstract, available through Service Ontario.
Many positions require outdoor work and candidates must be willing to work in all outdoor conditions and be able to put up with noxious weeds, trash, dust, litter or chemicals.
Students are eligible for the student jobs lottery twice during their post-secondary school careers. Eligible students must resubmit an application before each year’s lottery. The city thanks all who enter the lottery but only those drawn in the lottery will be contacted for further interviews.
Applications will only be taken online through the city's official website. No paper applications, or those with incomplete information, will be accepted.
