If you ride the tunnel bus regularly in Windsor, you might notice a change starting Tuesday.
Transit Windsor is launching a pilot project to replace its monthly magnetic passes and eventually, paper tickets.
Right now, riders have to replace their passes each month, but starting Tuesday, it will eliminate the current ones with a version that is reloadable. The pilot applies to tunnel bus and combo passes.
The current passes will still be valid until the end of January, and riders can continue to use paper tickets or pay cash at the fare box.
The TW Tunnel and Combo smart pass will be pre-loadable with 15 or 30 days. The price will not change. The Tunnel pass will still be $95.70 and the Combo pass, $157.
The public transit provider also hopes by allowing the passes to be reloaded it can eliminate long line-ups at the end of the month for riders wishing to renew their pass.
The new passes will be available at the Downtown Terminal on Chatham Street West or at the Transit Centre on North Service Road, but eventually, Transit Windsor wants to add more locations and allow riders to use their smartphone as the pass.
