Windsor seeks input on housing and homelessness

Windsor residents are being asked to provide their insight on the city's housing.

The city's department of housing and children's services is conducting a survey, as part of its process to review and update its long-term Housing and Homelessness Master Plan. The survey, which takes just a few minutes to complete, will help the city identify its priorities on housing over the next few years.

Debbie Cercone, the city's executive director of housing and children's services, said the city has made progress in improving access to safe and affordable housing, but there is definitely room for improvement.

"Windsor-Essex has improved access to emergency housing and housing support services, increased housing options to meet the needs of vulnerable individuals and families," said Cercone in a media release. "Through partnerships with community groups and organizations, [Windsor-Essex] assisted people in obtaining the supports needed to obtain and maintain housing."

Critics have said in the past, however, that the city has not done enough to help the city's homeless or improve the stock of safe, affordable housing. Homelessness was an issue in the last municipal election, and among the ideas tossed around at the time was a tent city or warehouse for the homeless.

The survey is up through February 12. You can take the questionnaire through a link on the city's official website.
