Closed ice rink cancels public skating at two arenas

The City of Windsor has been forced to close one of the two ice pads at Forest Glade Arena because of equipment failure.

The chiller that keeps the ice in Rink B frozen needs to be replaced and that could take up to three weeks.

The parts will have to be brought in from Toronto, installed, and the ice will have to be replaced.

Rink A is not affected. It operates off a separate chiller that was installed five years ago.

The closure could impact the schedules at other rinks across the city.

"Per the ice allocation policy," read a release from the city, "Minor Sports Associations are to be accommodated first. As a result, Rink B activity is being moved to other ice pads, and in some cases, adult rentals at the WFCU Centre are being displaced."

League officials will be contacted and will notify their members of any change in venue.

With the closure of Rink B, other events are being cancelled for the duration. They are, public skating on Friday nights from 7:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m., Adult/Senior skating on Thursdays from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 p.m., and parent and tot skating on Thursdays from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Public skating at the WFCU Centre on Saturdays from 4:20 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. will also be cancelled.
