Windsor man charged with assaulting police

A Windsor man has been charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest after allegedly trying to break into a vehicle.

Police said they were called on Monday morning about a suspicious person using tools to try and get into a vehicle in the area of McEwan Avenue and Pelletier Street. When officers arrived, they saw a man matching the suspect's description standing next to a vehicle with tools in his hands, and a T-handle tool that was still inside the vehicle's window. Investigators said he ran away and a Taser was used when he was caught near Curry Avenue and Pelletier Street and resisted arrest.

"The suspect was uncooperative and refused to put down the tools he still had in his possession," added Constable Talya Natyshak.

Officers seized a knife, pliers, a coat hanger, keys, and a T-handle tool.

Orest Kozub, 48, of Windsor, is charged with mischief, possession of break and enter tools, two counts of assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
