Patient of possible measles case in CK not from anti-vaxx movement

The local health unit has confirmed the family of the patient potentially infected with measles in Chatham-Kent are not anti-vaccination activists.

Dr. David Colby, the medical officer of health with the Chatham-Kent Health Unit, said he couldn't give out much more information about the patient due to privacy reasons. According to Colby, the lab has still not confirmed it is a case of the measles yet and the health unit is hoping the tests come back negative.

"This is a probable case of measles based on the clinical presentation so we are taking a precautionary approach," Colby said.

He added the patient in question is below the age when routine measles-mumps-rubella immunization is given, which means they are likely less than 12 months old. The health unit announced the possible case of measles late Monday afternoon in a news release.

Colby said he hopes to get the lab results back on Wednesday.
