U.S. sales of the Windsor-built Chrysler Pacifica minivan continue to slide.
The sales have been declining since October.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) reported March sales south of the border dipped by 35 per cent compared to the same month a year ago. Last year, FCA said 13,086 Pacificas were sold in America during March but this March only 8,457 were sold.
Overall Pacifica U.S. sales are down 29 per cent so far this year compared to the same period in 2018. That's a drop from 32,579 to 23,274 Pacificas sold.
The other minivan manufactured in Windsor is the Dodge Grand Caravan. Those American sales dropped by three per cent last month compared to March of 2018. The automaker said around 500 fewer Caravans were sold in the U.S. last month compared to the same month a year ago.
Year to date sales of the Caravan are down 18 per cent compared to sales during the first three months last year. FCA added that's nearly 8,000 fewer vans left American showrooms when compared to the same period in 2018.
In Canada, Pacifica sales dropped 66 per cent when March of 2018 is compared to last month while year to date sales are down 59 per cent.
March sales of the Grand Caravan in Canada were up by 13 per cent while year to date sales were down nine per cent.
FCA recently eliminated one of three shifts at the Windsor Assembly Plant as a result of the declining vehicle sales. The loss of the third shift is expected to result in around 1,500 job losses.
