Milder flu season at Windsor hospitals

This influenza season at Windsor Regional Hospital was lighter compared to previous years.

CEO David Musyj said it had its ebbs and flows, but the changes made a couple of years ago got them through this season's heavy surge period.

This year, Musyj said hospital capacity hit around 100 per cent during flu season as opposed to 115 per cent or 120 per cent over the past four or five winters even though patient volumes were up.

He also credited this season's vaccine for the good news because it was "highly matched".

Musyj said those under the age of 10 were hit the hardest this year, while others were immune to this strain because they were vaccinated before.

He added the flu season is now over.
