Two fires break out in Essex County hours apart

It was an active night for firefighters across Windsor-Essex as they battled two overnight blazes.

Shortly before 1 a.m., crews in Windsor responded to a house fire on Langlois Avenue near Tuscarora Street. According to a post on Windsor Fire's Twitter page, flames were heavy on the building's exterior when firefighters arrived at the scene. Flames were also in the attic of the house.

It took less than an hour for crews to put out the fire. No injuries have been reported and damage is estimated at around $100,000. The cause is currently undetermined.

Meanwhile, the Leamington Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 2:30 a.m. on Essex Road 31 near Talbot Street West.  The fire was reported to be under control around 5 a.m. and firefighters were able to rescue a cat from inside the building.

OPP closed Essex Road 31 between Talbot Street West and Highway 3 for several hours while fire crews remained on the scene. No further details have been released and the Ontario Fire Marshall has been called to the scene.
