Prescribed burn at Spring Garden Natural Area Saturday

You might see some smoke in the air over the west end of Windsor today.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority will be conducting a prescribed burn at the Spring Garden Natural Area, so long as the weather permits.

Earlier this week, a burn was conducted at the Ojibway Prairie Nature Complex, on Chappus Street, Ojibway Park, and Black Oak Heritage Park.

The authority said continued burning is necessary to "maintain a healthy and diverse ecosystem in the Ojibway Prairie area." It is part of a comprehensive restoration plan for the environmentally sensitive area.

Landowners in the area have been advised to keep their windows closed during the burn.

Areas of Black Oak Heritage Park are currently restricted from use with signs in place.
