The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board has a new partnership with Windsor's Giovanni Caboto Soccer Club.
Starting at the end of April, the soccer club will play 44 home games at Holy Names Catholic High School.
The school has a new sports field worth $1.8-million, and the club's 600 players will use the field on weeknights from Monday to Thursday, and on Saturdays until early October when the season wraps up.
The club was founded in 1951 and has won four Ontario Cup championships. It has used different fields throughout the city up until this season.
"We're absolutely thrilled that our players will be able to enjoy such a remarkable new facility," said Caboto Soccer President, Egidio Mosca. "We can start to build an environment here that feels like home, and we can't wait for our season to get started."
The turf field was finished just last year and opened in September. It includes a 400-metre, six-lane running track, bleachers, and a press box.
"We make investments in infrastructure to improve the experience for our students, but also for the benefit of our community," said Director of Education Terry Lyons. "The revenue generated through this partnership guarantees that will be able to maintain this as a premier facility in Windsor-Essex for years to come."
