Ontario Provincial Police are assuring residents of Essex-County that there is no threat to public safety after reports of an attempted abduction turned out to be untrue.
It was originally reported that around 9:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of Elliott Street and Clark Street West in Leamington, a girl was approached by a van when a man opened the door and tried to grab the girl's arm.
However police say now, after further investigation, they have concluded that this incident was not an attempted abduction. They confirmed that the door of the suspected vehicle was never opened and there was never any attempt to grab the female when approached.
The OPP Essex County-Leamington Major Crimes Unit is would still like to identify the vehicle and any occupants. The vehicle is described as a blue full-sized van.
