The regional supervising coroner for the West Region has announced an inquest into the death of an inmate at the Southwest Detention Centre in Windsor.
Delilah Blair died in the hospital on May 22, 2017, after she was transferred from the jail in Windsor.
The 30-year-old woman was found unresponsive in her cell. Some reports suggest she attempted to hang herself with bed sheets in the cell.
Her death is the first at the Southwest Detention Centre since it opened in 2014.
The inquest will investigate the circumstances surrounding her death, and the jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.
So far, the date and location of the inquest have not been announced.
Dr. Jennifer Tang will preside as the inquest coroner, and Kate Forget and Nicole Stortini will be counsel to the coroner.
