Sandbags available in Lakeshore to prevent flooding

The Town of Lakeshore is offering sandbags to residents who want to protect their property from overland flooding.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued another flood warning because of high water levels and strong wind in the Windsor area. The flood warning is in effect for the shores of Lake Erie, including Pelee Island, Lake St. Clair, and the Detroit River until Friday.

Another shipment of sandbags has come in and they will be available at 1089 County Rd. 25 and 2065 County Rd. 31. Those locations will be open on Wednesday until 6 p.m., and Thursday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"Lakeshore encourages residents who may not be familiar with sandbags to watch a YouTube video from the Canadian Army showing how to fill and build sandbag walls," said Rita Chappell, manager of communications and strategic initiatives.

Sandbags and sand are free to residents but they will be required to show identification to prove they live in Lakeshore.

Residents also need to bring shovels.
