A local hospital is celebrating a new record set by one of its biggest fundraisers.
The seventh annual Heart Breaker Challenge for Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare took place on May 25 at Malden Park in Windsor. The unconventional running event raised a record $125,000, according to the totals released by HDGH Monday morning. This pushed the overall totals throughout the seven-year history of the fundraiser to over $700,000.
All proceeds from the Heart Breaker Challenge go to HDGH's cardiac wellness, stroke, and pulmonary rehab programs.
Over 1,600 people took part in this year's event, navigating a five-kilometre to seven-kilometre course. Runners had to contend with mud crawls, standing water, muddy hills, tire climbs, and other obstacles. Craft beers from Windsor-area brewers were served to adult runners upon completion of the course.
