Free transit in LaSalle for Strawberry Festival

If you plan to go to the LaSalle Strawberry Festival this weekend, and you live in town, take the bus.

The festival is at the Vollmer Recreation Complex this year because of flooding at Gil Maure Park and parking is expected to be very limited.

Bus service will be not only expanded this weekend, it will be free.

Two buses will run the route and service has been extended to Sunday. The town has posted the schedule online.

There will also be two shuttle buses to take festival-goers to the fireworks Friday night. One will run between LaSalle Town Hall and Vollmer Recreation Complex, while the other will pick up passengers at the old Centennial Arena site on Front Road behind the Goodwill Donation Centre. The shuttles will run between 7 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., but the town is still working on the schedule.

The fireworks display is set for 10:06 p.m. Friday night near the pond at the Vollmer Recreation Complex. The best viewing areas are in Parking Lot 1, the main lot, at the complex, at the pavilion/playground, and on the hill behind the pavilion.

Those who wish to ride their bike can take advantage of the free bike valet service at the entrance to the festival.
