If you live in Essex, you may get someone stopping by to check if your dog is licenced.
Canvassers from the town are in the process of visiting homes to let residents know about dog licencing requirements, as well as offer a chance to purchase dog registration tags.
The program is designed to let Essex residents know about the benefits concerning dog licencing, which include a higher likelihood of a lost pet being reunited with their owner, as well as avoid costly fees for having an unlicenced dog or housing lost dogs that are picked up. Licence fees also benefit local animal programs and services, such as Essex's animal control and the spay-neuter program.
Robert Auger, clerk and solicitor for the town of Essex, said the program is very convenient.
"This is an opportunity to purchase a dog tag from the comfort of your own home," said Auger in a news release, though he also indicated that residents may still stop by town hall to get their tags.
Complete information on animal licencing in Essex is available by going to the town's official website.
