Enforcement stepped up, citations up in LaSalle

LaSalle police reported a huge jump in citations issued during the month of June.

According to a post on the service's official Facebook page, officers issued 130 citations to drivers during the month of June alone. This is up from 96 tickets handed out during May.

As a result of the increased enforcement, traffic citations and warnings have increased as the weather turned warmer, according to the Facebook post. The crackdown began in early spring in response to complaints from residents and visitors about aggressive driving, distracted driving and speeding.

The post also pointed out that despite the increased enrollment and issuing of tickets, police continue to receive complaints about dangerous driving.

The number of complaints reported to LaSalle police has increased by 64 per cent over the last five years, and the percentage of motor vehicle collisions involving injuries has also jumped.
