OPP K9 officer helps nab robbery suspects

Two men are in custody thanks to the efforts made by an Ontario Provincial Police K9 officer.

Police said the incident occurred in Lakeshore on July 9. Officers responded to a break-and-enter in progress call around 5 a.m. at a business on County Road 42. Two suspects fled from the scene as officers arrived, so the OPP Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit helped search for them.

One man was placed under arrest. The other tried to flee through a field, but K9 officer "Maximus" gripped the suspect and held him until human officers were able to place him in custody. The man was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

Joseph Bohnenschuh and Mitchel Mancini have both been charged with break-and-enter, possession of stolen property, and two counts each of mischief under $5,000. In addition, Bohnenschuh is charged with three counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

Bohnenschuh was due to appear in a Windsor court Thursday. Mancini will have his chance to respond to the charges in Windsor on August 8. These charges have yet to be proven.
