Just a day after the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit announced it had resolved concerns at three foot care clinics in Essex County, it has suspended two others.
Until further notice, the health unit has suspended clinics at the South Essex Community Council and Sun Parlour Home. Both clinics are in Leamington.
Health officials received a complaint on June 12 and began investigating allegations there were breaches in "infection prevention and control practices related to reprocessing, cleaning, and handling of equipment, and a lack of standard operating procedures."
The risk of infection is low, but clients that received foot care at those clinics are advised to talk to their healthcare provider. Infection can range from localized skin or tissue irritation to more severe disease like hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV.
No blood-borne infections have been diagnosed, and the health unit stresses the lapses were in protocol only.
