Speeding in Lasalle is way up from last year

Lasalle police were kept busy last month ticketing speeders and aggressive drivers.

Officers issued 93 traffic tickets and 130 cautions in July and roughly half of them were for speeding.

Constable Terry Seguin told Blackburn News that speeding charges last month jumped by 59 per cent compared to July of 2018 and speeding warnings went up by 34 per cent during the same period.

"Speeding and aggressive driving continue to be the focus of the LaSalle Police Service in response to this local priority," said police.

In July, police in Lasalle also issued five tickets and 25 cautions for driving without insurance, two charges and one caution under the cannabis act, and one impaired driving charge. However, five drivers had their licences suspended last month for blowing a warning (over 50mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood) during a breathalyzer.

"This continues to be a safety issue as well as a local priority as identified by our citizens," police said. "Therefore, as a result, police will proceed with an increased number of traffic stops in all areas of the town and lay appropriate charges as necessary."

Police in LaSalle are asking that everyone obey the rules of the road.
