Two charged after illicit pot operation raided in LaSalle

The Ontario Provincial Police has charged two people for allegedly running an illegal cannabis operation.

The OPP's Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team, its Community Street Unit, and the LaSalle Police Service participated in an enforcement action around noon Tuesday at a location on Front Road near Delaware Avenue.

After the search warrant was executed, two people were arrested and charged with possession of cannabis with intent to sell, according to OPP Constable Jim Root. Unspecified quantities of pot and cannabis-infused products were seized.

The suspects have not been named, but they will appear in a Windsor courtroom at a later date to respond to the charges.

The OPP wants to make it clear that although recreational cannabis is legal in Ontario, it can only be purchased legally online through the Ontario Cannabis Store, or at a brick-and-mortar retailer that has been granted a licence by the province.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further information has been released.

Anyone with information that can help police in this incident is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted online, and to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
