Kingsville the latest to consider floating boat dock

Kingsville Town Council will consider the possibility of installing floating docks at its municipal marina.

The town had to suspend operations of its boat launch and fuel platform since June because of high water levels on Lake Erie. Workers installed a temporary fix allowing boaters to finish the season, but since water levels are expected to continue to fluctuate this year and beyond, a report before council recommends a more permanent solution.

Docks, both municipal and private have closed this summer on Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River because of flooding.

The City of Windsor closed Lakeview Park Marina in the middle of May. Since then, city officials have unveiled a $3 million proposal which includes a floating dock.

The Town of Lakeshore has also installed a temporary surface on its dock at Belle River Marina and plans to consider a more permanent fix during budget deliberations for the 2020 fiscal year.

Like Lakeshore, Kingsville town council is not expected to sign off on a permanent floating dock until next year.

Councillors will consider five possible options Monday night ranging from a wooden floating dock for $45,000 to a concrete floating dock, which would cost $115,000.
