Windsor police seize firearm west of downtown

Windsor police say they have removed another illegal firearm from the streets.

Members of the Drugs and Guns Unit (DIGS), along with the Windsor Police Emergency Services Unit and K-9 unit went to a home Thursday on Josephine Avenue north of University Avenue, looking for two suspects at the heart of an ongoing investigation into illegal firearms.

Police ordered the four occupants of the house out, secured it, and searched it without finding the suspects. However, a loaded shotgun was among the items seized from the house. It was the second illegal firearm seized by police in a week's time, according to Sergeant Steve Betteridge.

One of the occupants of the home turned out to be wanted on unrelated warrants and was arrested without incident.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this probe is asked to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4361, or Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
