Nemak and Unifor agreement ends protest

The protests at the Nemak plant in Windsor came to an end on Sunday night after 13 days.

According to a release from Unifor, Nemak agreed to the conditions that were proposed by Unifor on Saturday evening.

Unifor and Nemak agreed on a timeline for negotiations regarding the closure announcement, and an expedited arbitration process should a negotiated resolution prove unsuccessful.

They have additionally both decided to abide by the arbitration decision, regardless of the outcome. Nemak will also not discipline any Unifor member for any issues related to the dispute.

The agreement settlement comes just one day after Unifor ignored a court order to resume production at the Nemak plant.

Production at the plant will resume Sunday night.
