Ford issues recalls for two popular models

The Ford Motor Company has issued recalls for a pair of its more popular models and amended a previously-issued alert.

The Dearborn-based automaker put out the two newer recalls Wednesday on about 44,000 Ford F-150 pickup trucks and Ford Explorer SUVs. Selected 2020 Ford Escape crossover models were added to a recall issued on August 31. Ford has reported no injuries or collisions relating to the problems.

The first recall involves select F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks, with an axle shaft manufactured with steel that does not meet Ford's specifications. The automaker said the shaft could fracture and result in either a loss of steering power while in two-wheel drive or an inability to hold the "park" function.

The second recall issued Wednesday concerns select 2020 Ford Explorers with 2.3-litre and 3.3-litre gasoline engines. The wiring harness may not be adequately secured and may come in contact with the air-conditioning pulley, resulting in damage to the air-conditioning belt or wiring harness. This may lead to a short circuit or even a fire.

The amended recall from August 31 includes over 9,300 2020 Ford Escapes sold in North America, though Ford said the majority of these vehicles are still in inventory and are being fixed. The seatbelt mechanism may be compromised, resulting in the increased likelihood of injury in a crash. The reference number is 19-C-07.

Complete information on these recalls is available on the Ford Motor Company's media page.
