What's open and closed in Windsor-Essex on Thanksgiving?

Businesses throughout Windsor-Essex will either be closed or on shortened hours Monday, so their employees can spend Thanksgiving with their families and friends.

All federal, provincial and municipal offices will be closed Monday, October 14. There will be no Canada Post delivery. All ServiceOntario branches will be closed on Thanksgiving. Some transactions though can still be performed through their official website.

All banks, credit unions and other financial institutions will be closed on Monday.

The publicly-funded English and French school boards in Windsor-Essex will not have classes on Monday. The same applies to the University of Windsor and all St. Clair College campuses.

All branches of the Windsor Public Library and the Essex County Library will be closed Thanksgiving, then reopen for regular hours on Tuesday.

All LCBO outlets will be closed on Thanksgiving. Beer Store locations will be closed with the exception of Walker Road and Ypres Avenue, and Tecumseh Road East off Lauzon Road. Those two locations are open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

Devonshire Mall and Tecumseh Mall will be closed on Thanksgiving, but Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Many retail outlets and chain restaurants will either be closed or on abbreviated hours. Call ahead to avoid disappointment.

Residential garbage, yard waste and recyclable collection in Windsor normally done on Monday will be delayed a day. Commercial garbage collection will take place as usual. The public drop-off centre at Central and EC Row in Windsor will be closed on Thanksgiving but reopen on Tuesday.

The 311 call centre in the city of Windsor will be closed Monday, while the 211 line will be operating 24 hours a day as usual to serve all Windsor-Essex residents.

Arenas in the city of Windsor are closed on Thanksgiving. Customer care centres and community centres are also closed with the exception of pre-arranged rentals. Indoor pools will be closed with the exception of the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre, which will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for adult fit lanes and open adult swim. The centre’s fitness centre will also be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Adventure Bay Family Water Park will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Monday.

There will be no parking enforcement in Windsor on Monday. Metered street parking is free Thanksgiving and all traffic fine payment offices will be closed. Parking garages and lots, however, will be paid as usual.

The Francois Baby House and Chimczuk Museum in Windsor are closed Monday, their usual day off.

Transit Windsor buses will run Thanksgiving on a Sunday and holiday schedule. The tunnel bus to Detroit will also operate on a Sunday and holiday schedule since Monday is also Columbus Day in the U.S.
