Officers rescue alleged impaired driver from water-filled ditch

Amherstburg police officers helped to rescue a man from a water-filled ditch Saturday night.

The Windsor Police Service Amherstburg detachment was called to a crash around 11:45 p.m. on County Road 11. When they arrived they found fresh tire tracks leading into a ditch, where an overturned vehicle was in the water.

The driver was calling out for help. Officers say there was only 10-15 centimetres of the inside of the car above water when they arrived.

Officers broke the back window of the car and were able to safely remove the lone occupant of the vehicle. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Upon further investigation of the crash, officers determined the driver was impaired. He was arrested and charged.
