One of the candidates for the leadership of the Ontario Liberals wants the provincial government to work with municipalities to grow economies and address social issues.
"What we've seen in the last 18 months from Doug Ford in Queen's Park is very top-down, very heavy-handed, it's our way or the high way and that doesn't work anymore. I mean it's never really worked but it certainly doesn't work now with the challenges that communities like Windsor are facing," said Steven Del Duca.
Del Duca is running for the top spot in the Ontario Liberal Party and travelled to Windsor Thursday to announce his Urban Renewal Plan. His plan includes creating a $30 million fund to support business retention and expansion on main streets.
"This would allow us to specifically target areas like BIAs and those types of areas where the businesses are struggling," said Windsor City Councillor Rino Bortolin.
Del Duca would also like to establish multi-tier 911 services to more efficiently deploy mental health and addiction services to citizens in need. He says this will free up police to focus on law enforcement and crime prevention.
The Ontario Liberal Party will choose its next leader on March 7, 2020. Del Duca was the first of six candidates to put his name forward for the position.
