A team of investigators has been sent to Windsor to investigate the cause of a weekend vessel fire.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) announced Tuesday morning that a team has been deployed to look into the blaze aboard the Canadian freighter Tecumseh on Sunday afternoon.
The U.S. Coast Guard and the Canadian Coast Guard both reported Monday that the Tecumseh caught fire off Zug Island on the U.S. side of the Detroit River. The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Bristol Bay was diverted to the scene and a 45-foot response boat was launched from the USCG’s station on Belle Isle, along with an MH-65 helicopter dispatched from Air Station Detroit.
The Tecumseh drifted into Canadian waters, but a firefighting team boarded the boat and put the fire out. The crew of 16 was safely disembarked and checked by Essex-Windsor EMS. There were no reports of injuries.
