CAS makes desperate last minute call for donations

The Windsor-Essex Children's Aid Society is desperate for donations to provide for 150 families this Christmas.

Every year, the Windsor-Essex Children's Aid Foundation calls on the community to sponsor families in need through its Holiday Program. This year, the CAS was able to match 610 families up with organizations and businesses that pooled their resources to buy gifts, but it could not find sponsors for another 150 families.

Manager of Public Relations and Fund Development Mike Clark told BlackburnNews.com the families are all ones that are served by the CAS.

"A lot of these people have extenuating circumstances such as financial issues and all that goes with it," he said. "Don't really have the means to provide a Christmas to their young ones."

With just days left before Christmas, it is asking for monetary donations instead of sponsors.  It hopes to raise $60,000.

"We really want to meet the wishes of all these families," said Clark. "We're seeking from the public monetary donations that will allow our volunteers and staff to actually go out and do the shopping."

He said Monday is the last day the agency can accept donations. It is closed Tuesday until after the holidays.

Anyone who can donate is asked to call the CAS at 519-252-1171 ext. 3210 or online at www.wecaf.on.ca.
