Windsor

Christmas open and closed for Windsor-Essex

Most people across Windsor-Essex will be spending the Christmas holiday with their families and friends. A lot of official business will be put on hold this week, with many closings and abbreviated hours.

Canada Post will deliver mail on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, with local post offices open on abbreviated hours. Be sure to call ahead to avoid a wasted trip. The same goes for Service Ontario, with branches open Christmas Eve, though some offices will close at 1 p.m., others at 5 p.m.

All federal, provincial and municipal offices will be closed on Christmas Day, with no mail delivery.

The Beer Store and LCBO are open until 6 p.m. Tuesday but will be closed Wednesday.

Devonshire Mall, Tecumseh Mall and Windsor Crossing outlets in LaSalle will each close at 5 p.m. Tuesday. All are closed Wednesday.

Windsor

There will be no residential garbage collection on Wednesday. Check your collection schedule for alternate pickup days. Commercial pickup will proceed as usual. The public drop-off and household chemical waste depot off Central Ave near E.C. Row will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The 311 Call Centre will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and closed Wednesday. The 211 call centre will operate 24/7 as usual.

All Windsor indoor arenas close at 2 p.m. Christmas Eve and remain closed until Friday. Bright Lights Windsor in Jackson Park will be open every night from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

All Windsor arenas and community centres will operate on adjusted hours throughout the winter holiday break.

There is no parking enforcement on Christmas Day. Street parking will be free, and the parking enforcement payment office will be closed.

All branches of the Windsor Public Library will be open Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and be closed on Christmas Day.

All Essex County library branches are closed through Friday.

Transit Windsor will run on special schedules on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Adventure Bay Family Water Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and close Wednesday. During the winter break, hours will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. most days.

Amherstburg

Amherstburg's Light Up the Town holiday light display is open every night through February 16, 2020. The Gingerbread Warming House in "Toddy" Jones Park is open from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each Friday, Saturday and Sunday night through January 5, 2020.

Essex

Essex town offices will be closed, reopening on Thursday, January 2.

The town’s recreational facilities will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. A complete schedule of all holiday break programming is available on the town's official website.

Kingsville

Kingsville's Fantasy of Lights takes place every night in Lakeside Park through Wednesday, January 8.

Garbage collection in the town, generally done on Friday, will be pushed to Saturday

Lakeshore

The Atlas Tube Centre will be open until noon Christmas Eve and remain closed through Christmas Day.

Garbage collection in Area 1 will take place on Thursday and Friday in Areas 2 and 3.

LaSalle

The LaSalle Civic Centre will be closed through Thursday. However, municipal offices will remain closed until Thursday, January 2, 2020.

The Vollmer Complex will close at noon on Christmas Eve and reopen on Friday.

Leamington

The municipal building will be closed through Thursday.

There will be no Leamington to Windsor (LTW) transit service on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex closes at noon on Christmas Eve and will remain closed Christmas Day.

Tecumseh

Tecumseh Town Hall will be closed throughout the week and reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2020.

Tecumseh Arena will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, except for previously-scheduled rentals.

Trash collection, normally on Thursdays, will be delayed to Friday, December 27. Recycling pickup will also be pushed back a day.

Tecumseh Transit will not operate on Christmas Day but will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. the rest of the week.
