A spike in respiratory illnesses gets the blame for a significant increase in the number of people going to the emergency department at Windsor Regional Hospital.
It could mean anyone going there could be in for a long wait.
Because of the long wait times, hospital officials are asking patients to consider alternatives. Patients will not be turned away from the emergency department; they are asked to consider going to the nearest walk-in clinic or visiting your family doctor instead.
If you have any questions about whether your ailment needs to be seen by a doctor in the emergency department, you are encouraged to call TeleHealth at 1-866-797-0000.
You can also find out how long those waits are at either the Met or Ouellette Campuses online.
On Tuesday, Erie Shores Healthcare reported a similar spike in respiratory illnesses and longer wait times in its emergency department in Leamington.
