Free PSW training program in Amherstburg

A group of assisted living and retirement homes in Amherstburg is the latest to offer a free training program for personal support workers.

"Amherstburg is very very short personal support workers which is why we targeted it as a community where we wanted to put the solution into effect," said Kim Utley with SE Health.

Similar programs have been offered throughout the Erie St. Clair LHIN to help address the shortage felt throughout the region.

"Our goal is to reach the smaller communities where individuals may have more limited access to colleges and universities and training," said Utley.

In the five-month program, students will earn a PSW certificate at no cost. The program also offers to pay students for the first four weeks of the program as they train as a home support worker.

The program will start on January 20, 2020. Anyone interested can contact any of the sponsoring organizations in Amherstburg. Those organizations are Apans Health Services Richmond Terrace, Assisted Living Southwestern Ontario, Bayshore HomeCare Solutions, ParaMed Inc. and SE Health.
